“60% of Government Entities Are Not Functioning,” EFFL Leader Emmanuel Gonquoi Criticizes GOL for Poor Performance

Emmanuel Gonquoi, Commander-in-Chief of the Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL) and an ardent supporter of President Joseph Boakai who now serves as Director of Training at the National Port Authority, has voiced growing frustration over the poor performance of key government institutions, warning that continued inefficiency could trigger public demonstrations, including the closure of ministry offices.

Speaking on a local radio station in Monrovia, Gonquoi expressed dissatisfaction with the state of governance under the Unity Party-led administration. “The heads of government ministries and agencies are pushing us to start locking their offices very soon,” he warned, signaling a potential move by the EFFL to take civil action against underperforming institutions.

According to Gonquoi, approximately 60 percent of government entities are not functioning effectively. “The government’s success and failure is 50-50, but there are opportunities to do well,” he said, urging leaders to act with urgency and sincerity.

He further emphasized that “governance is not about lies and propaganda,” calling for a transparent and honest approach to public administration.

In a sharp critique of former President George Weah, Gonquoi described his leadership as “a complete calamity,” underscoring the EFFL’s disapproval of the past administration while pressing the current one to avoid similar pitfalls.

EFFL’s comments highlight rising tensions within the pro-Boakai coalition, as citizens and civil society organizations grow increasingly impatient with the pace of government reform and service delivery.
