The provisional results also show 54.77% collusion constituting 534 out of 975 schools involved with cheating or academic malpractice. The results of candidates involved with collusion from these schools are withheld.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results for the 2024 school examinations, covering various assessments conducted in Liberia. This announcement was made at a press conference held on Monday, September 16, 2024, at WAEC’s Monrovia office.
The 2024 examinations included both national and international tests. The national exams were administered to students in grades 3, 6, and 9 across Liberia, while the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) was conducted for senior high school students across five English-speaking West African countries.
Addressing scores of journalists in Monrovia, WAEC Liberia Boss Dale G. Gbotoe revealed that the grade 3 LNAT results show a high level of achievement, with males performing slightly better than females. Notably, Grand Gedeh County achieved the highest pass rate of 95.45%.
Gbotoe further disclosed that the Liberia Primary School Certificate Examination (LPSCE), administered to 6th graders, had an overall excellent performance, with female students slightly outperforming males. Guinea recorded the highest passing rate at 98.57%.
The Liberia Junior High School Certificate Examination (LJHSCE), for 9th graders, also yielded excellent results, with females slightly outperforming males. Guinea led with a perfect passing rate of 100%.
The WAEC Boss highlighted that the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) 2024 results showed commendable performance, with candidates achieving a passing rate of 60% or higher in Biology and Economics. Maryland County had the highest passing rate at 98.29%.
According to Mr. Gbotoe, schools experienced delays in registering candidates, leading to changes in examination dates for the LPSCE and LJHSCE.
He stated that the late arrival of Optical Mark Reader sheets forced candidates to answer objective questions in test booklets, contributing to a delay in results.
The WAEC Boss revealed that the misuse of social media for exam cheating posed significant challenges, with ongoing investigations into involved parties.
Gbotoe highlighted that certificates for exams conducted before 2024 will be available by November, while certificates for the 2024 exams will be ready by December.
“The WAEC Secretariat appreciates the support from the Government of Liberia and other stakeholders and will continue to seek improvements in service delivery,” Gbotoe stated.
He disclosed that candidates can access their results starting September 18, 2024, through the WAEC Online School Registration Portal or individual result checkers.
