Liberia has taken a significant step toward securing a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) after receiving official backing from the African Union (AU) during its 38th Ordinary Summit.
The decision marks a pivotal moment for Liberia’s diplomatic agenda as it seeks to elevate its role in global governance.
President Joseph Nyuma Boakai addressed African leaders at the summit, expressing appreciation for the endorsement and reaffirming Liberia’s dedication to promoting peace, stability, and development across the continent.
He stressed that Liberia’s candidacy represents a commitment to championing Africa’s collective interests on international platforms.
With a history of supporting regional stability and conflict resolution, Liberia has long advocated for African unity. President Boakai highlighted the nation’s track record in peacekeeping efforts and emphasized the need for stronger representation of African perspectives in global decision-making.
The AU’s backing strengthens Liberia’s campaign for the UNSC seat, where it aims to work alongside other African nations, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, to address pressing issues such as security threats, economic challenges, and environmental concerns.
With the AU’s endorsement, Liberia now turns its focus to rallying support among UN member states ahead of the official vote for the Security Council seat.
