The Monrovia City Court has found former Montserrado County District #3 Representative Ceebee Barshell in contempt for failing to comply with a court order mandating him to provide financial support for his nine-year-old son.
The decision follows claims that Barshell has neglected his obligations despite previous directives to cover his child’s educational and living expenses.
Court records indicate that Barshell was ordered to pay $1,900 to cover the child’s school fees, feeding, and rent. However, reports suggest he has only made partial payments rather than fulfilling the total amount.
The child’s mother, Zoe Hanries, expressed frustration over the delay, revealing that their rent of $900 is due this month, worsening their financial hardship.
Legal sources say the court summoned the former lawmaker to explain why he has failed to comply with its directive.
A failure to provide satisfactory justification could lead to further legal action. Hanries has urged the court to enforce its order, stating that her child’s well-being is at risk due to the lack of consistent financial support.
Barshell has yet to respond to the contempt ruling publicly. Attempts to reach him for comment have been unsuccessful. The case has sparked public discussion about parental responsibility and the legal consequences of failing to meet child support obligations.
