The National Youth Congress of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) has called for mass citizen action against Speaker of the House of Representatives Richard Nagbe Koon, accusing him of undermining democracy and facilitating corruption.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, and signed by its Secretary-General Alieu Kiadii, the ANC Youth Congress denounced what it described as a deteriorating state of governance under Speaker Koon. The group accused him of using his position to enable lawlessness and shield corrupt activities.
The statement pointed to recent incidents as evidence of the alleged decline in democratic values, citing the assault of a journalist and what it called the unlawful search of Representative Yekeh Kolubah’s vehicle on February 18. The ANC Youth Congress blamed these actions on a growing culture of impunity under Speaker Koon’s leadership.
Further alleging misuse of public resources, the group claimed that Speaker Koon has been linked to a rapid surge in real estate developments, including the construction of multiple duplexes across the country since assuming office. It asserted that these projects are funded by corruption and serve as symbols of betrayal against the Liberian people.
Calling on Liberians to take a stand, the ANC Youth Congress urged collective resistance against what it termed a “regime of deceit and malfeasance.” It emphasized that the people must demand transparency and accountability, warning against complacency in the face of what it described as threats to democracy.
Reaffirming its commitment to justice and good governance, the group vowed to support every effort aimed at holding national leaders accountable. It called on citizens to reject any leadership that fosters corruption, insisting that Liberia must not be governed through intimidation and misuse of power.
