A total of 920 Liberians have graduated from the Montserrado County District #7 Skills Training Center after completing programs in technical and vocational disciplines, including catering, pastry, journalism, tailoring, decorations, and CCTV installation.
The initiative, led by District Representative Emmanuel Dahn through the Emmanuel Dahn Foundation, aims to equip individuals with practical skills for economic empowerment. The graduation ceremony, held at the Monrovia Sports Commission, highlighted the program’s role in preparing participants for employment and entrepreneurship.
Deputy Minister for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Laraamand S. Nyonton, served as the keynote speaker. In his remarks, Nyonton commended Representative Dahn and the training center’s instructors for their dedication to improving the lives of the graduates. He praised the graduates for their commitment to learning and urged them to use their new skills to contribute to Liberia’s development.
“Today, you are equipped with the skills needed to not only better your lives but also to drive the growth of our nation,” Nyonton said. He encouraged the graduates to seize opportunities in their respective fields and emphasized the value of technical education in fostering economic progress.
Representative Dahn reflected on the five-year journey of the skills training program, describing it as a long-held vision to empower youth through quality vocational education. He called on the national government to support similar initiatives, arguing that technical training is vital to building a skilled workforce and ensuring sustainable development.
“It has always been my dream to build human capacity and unlock the potential of our youth through quality TVET programs,” Dahn said. He reaffirmed his foundation’s commitment to expanding technical training in the district and emphasized that the program has provided not only skills but also a renewed sense of hope for many participants.
Graduates expressed gratitude for the opportunity, sharing how the training has equipped them to seek employment or start their own businesses. Many described the program as a transformative experience that has improved their livelihoods and positioned them to contribute meaningfully to Liberia’s economy.
Representative Dahn concluded by pledging to continue investing in technical education and called on stakeholders to support initiatives that foster job creation and economic independence across the country.
