UPNYC Stresses Accountability and Youth Empowerment in New Resolution

The Unity Party National Youth Congress (UPNYC) has unveiled a bold resolution aimed at positioning Liberia’s youth as a powerful force in governance, national development, and the fight against corruption.

Adopted during the retreat held in Gompa City, Nimba County, from February 28 to March 2, 2025, the resolution outlines specific measures for strengthening youth leadership, expanding civic engagement, and ensuring accountability in the Unity Party-led government.

Central to the resolution is the UPNYC’s commitment to fostering youth participation in Liberia’s political and governance systems. The Congress emphasizes that it is crucial for young people, particularly first-time voters and those previously disengaged, to play an active role in shaping the nation’s future. The resolution calls for an intensive focus on grassroots mobilization, with an emphasis on community-driven initiatives and civic education to encourage sustained involvement in the democratic process.

A notable aspect of the resolution is the proposal to create a permanent Youth Development Section within the Unity Party. The department will be tasked with preparing young Liberians for leadership roles through mentorship programs, leadership workshops, and political training. The UPNYC aims to ensure that young people are not only active participants in the political landscape but are also equipped with the skills necessary to drive Liberia’s growth and development.

The Youth Congress has also placed a strong emphasis on reconciliation, recognizing that unity is key to Liberia’s long-term stability. The resolution advocates for programs that encourage dialogue and conflict resolution among youth leaders, particularly those from diverse political and social backgrounds. These efforts are designed to heal divisions and promote a culture of collaboration and inclusivity.

In addition to leadership development and national reconciliation, the resolution also outlines a strategic plan for strengthening communication efforts within the UPNYC. The Youth Congress intends to leverage modern digital platforms and social media to increase its reach and mobilize young people across Liberia. Through online campaigns, political communication workshops, and educational seminars led by experienced political figures, the Congress aims to educate its members about governance, policy-making, and electoral processes.

Corruption remains a significant concern for the UPNYC, and the resolution makes it clear that the Youth Congress will be a vocal advocate for transparency and accountability. The Congress has called for swift action from the government in addressing corruption, particularly those highlighted by the General Auditing Commission (GAC). The resolution also announces an independent investigation into alleged corrupt activities at the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE), with the Youth Congress pledging to hold those responsible accountable.

Beyond corruption, the UPNYC’s resolution calls on the Unity Party-led government to deliver on its promises, particularly in areas such as job creation, education, and vocational training. The Youth Congress stresses that these commitments are crucial to the country’s development and to addressing the challenges facing young Liberians.

With its resolution, the Unity Party National Youth Congress has sent a clear message: the youth of Liberia are ready to take an active role in shaping their country’s future. The resolution, adopted on March 2, 2025, marks a new chapter for the UPNYC, positioning it as a powerful voice for accountability, youth empowerment, and national unity in Liberia’s democratic process.
