The Liberia Diplomatic Think Tank (LiDTT) has officially endorsed Liberia’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2026-2027 term, emphasizing the country’s historical significance and commitment to global peace and security.
In a statement, LiDTT called on all Liberians, regardless of political differences, to unite to support the bid, which it described as an opportunity to elevate Liberia’s international standing and reinforce its contributions to regional stability.
The group highlighted Liberia’s transformation from a war-torn nation to a symbol of peace in West Africa, crediting its participation in peacekeeping missions and active engagement with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as evidence of its commitment to stability.
“To its bilateral and multilateral partners, Liberia has emerged from a period of conflict to become a beacon of peace and reconciliation,” LiDTT stated, underscoring the nation’s potential to bring valuable perspectives to the UNSC on post-conflict reconstruction and conflict resolution.
The statement also stressed Liberia’s long-standing support for UN-led initiatives, including the protection of human rights, conflict prevention, and civilian safety. LiDTT believes that Liberia’s presence on the Security Council would allow it to play a more direct role in shaping policies that address terrorism, transnational crime, and climate-related conflicts.
The group further noted that Liberia’s bid aligns with the African Union’s efforts to strengthen the continent’s representation in global decision-making. If elected, Liberia intends to advocate for policies integrating security and development, emphasizing poverty reduction and social equity as key strategies for long-term stability.
LiDTT concluded by urging all Liberians and the country’s international partners to rally behind the bid, emphasizing that Liberia’s success on the UNSC would contribute to a more peaceful and just world.
