A 38-year-old man, Joshua Odarbeh, is in police custody after allegedly attempting to sell his 11-year-old son, Prosperous Odarbeh. The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, following a sting operation involving businessman and musician Abraham Weah, also known as DJ Cassava Leaf.
Police investigators say Odarbeh contacted Weah via text, offering to sell his child. Weah, alarmed by the proposal, played along and suggested they meet in person rather than discuss it over the phone. He even offered to cover Odarbeh’s transportation from Grand Kru to Maryland County. When Odarbeh arrived at Weah’s business center, Weah immediately alerted the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Speaking to reporters, Odarbeh claimed he was under a “Satanic attack” that influenced his actions. He said he had known Weah since 2020 and had been buying phones from his shop since 2023. While denying prior involvement in human trafficking, he admitted reaching out to Weah to see if he was interested.
The Liberian National Police in Maryland County have launched an investigation, with Weah also invited for questioning.
