The National Port Authority (NPA) of Liberia has taken a major step toward modernizing its operations by forging a new partnership with the Regional Maritime University (RMU) in Accra, Ghana. The agreement, signed by NPA Managing Director Hon. Sekou A. M. Dukuly, will enable Liberian port employees to receive specialized training at half the usual cost.
Under the new arrangement, NPA staff will benefit from professional instruction in vital areas such as crane handling, forklift operations, and other technical skills essential for efficient port management. The initiative is expected to improve workforce performance and bring Liberia’s port operations closer to international standards.
Accompanying the NPA boss during the signing in Ghana were Harbor Master Captain Samuel Momolu Lynch and the Authority’s Executive Director for Governmental and International Affairs, Hon. Sekou B. Korleh. Both officials praised the agreement as a turning point in the effort to upgrade skills and strengthen Liberia’s position in regional maritime affairs.
“This is a significant achievement for the NPA and for Liberia,” said Hon. Dukuly. “It underscores our commitment to professionalism and to building an institution that is globally competitive.”
As a member of the RMU, Liberia will now enjoy broader access to the university’s internationally recognized training programs, which are designed to raise standards across the maritime and port management sectors. The training initiative is also seen as a key part of Liberia’s long-term plan to transform its ports into more dynamic, productive, and technologically capable entry points for trade and commerce.
