Monrovia, Liberia – In a bold move aimed at strengthening security and combating crime, Montserrado County District #8 Representative, Atty. Prince Toles, officially broke ground for the construction of a modern one-story police station in the Soniwein community.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held over the weekend, was a moment of jubilation as key stakeholders, including Monrovia City Mayor Hon. John Siafa, Police Commissioner Patrick Sudue, community youth chairpersons, and residents, gathered to witness what many described as a “new dawn” for the district.
“As planned, we have officially broken ground today for the construction of a modern one-story police station in the Soniwein community,” Rep. Toles declared.
“This marks a significant step toward curbing crime and restoring law and order in our district.”
The project has drawn support from several fronts. House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon donated 200 bags of cement, while Mayor Siafa pledged 20% of the total construction cost. The Liberia National Police (LNP), led by Commissioner Sudue, is also offering manpower and logistical support for the initiative.
The Soniwein community has long struggled with high rates of criminal activity, particularly drug smuggling and abuse. Residents have repeatedly called for government intervention to address the growing insecurity.
“We remain committed to supporting government efforts to restore law and order in every corner of our district and country,” Rep. Toles reaffirmed during his remarks.
Citizens expressed optimism that the presence of a police station will not only deter criminal behavior but also reduce drug proliferation, especially among young people.
“This project is a blessing,” said James Kollie, a resident and youth leader. “We believe the police station will bring us the peace we’ve been asking for.”
The initiative, according to community members, is a long-awaited response to years of concern over rising crime and insecurity in the area.
As construction begins, hopes are high that this landmark development will transform Soniwein from a crime hotspot into a beacon of community safety and resilience.
