House Concord to Establish National Food Assistance Agency as an Autonomous Body 

Monrovia, Liberia-The House of Representatives has joined the Senate in Establishing the National Food Assistance Agency (NFAA) as an Autonomous Body.  

The NFAA, in a release extends profound gratitude to the House of Representatives for their decisive action in concurring with the Liberian Senate on the passage of the Act establishing the National Food Assistance Agency (NFAA) as an autonomous agency. 

NFAA Director General, Borkai A. M. Sirleaf said this significant legislative achievement marks a transformative step for the agency, noting that it will transition from relying on annual executive orders to becoming a fully autonomous agency entrusted with the critical responsibility of overseeing and implementing Food Assistance Programs throughout the nation.

The release further stated that the Act embodies the Agency commitment to ensuring continuity, institutional stability, and a structured response to food insecurity and emergency assistance in Liberia. 

“We express special appreciation to Senator Abraham Darius Dillon of Montserrado County for his visionary leadership in sponsoring and introducing the bill, which the Senate initially passed on January 25, 2022,” the statement added.

DG Sheriff further commended the Speaker of the 55th legislature Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon and members of the House for their unwavering support and collaboration.

The statement, amongst other things acknowledged the effort of Joseph Nyuma Boakai, whose guidance has been essential in laying the groundwork for a resilient and sustainable food assistance framework in our country. 

“As we embark on this new chapter, the NFAA reaffirms its commitment to working with national and international partners to ensure that food assistance reaches Liberia’s most vulnerable populations. This Act ushers in a new era of accountability, coordination, and impact in the fight against hunger and malnutrition.” Continuing, the release stated: “We are grateful for the support and commitment shown by all stakeholders and look forward to the positive impact this legislation will have on the lives of our citizens.”
