Prominent Son of Grand Gedeh Accuses Former President George Weah of Neglecting Doe’s Wife and Legacy

A prominent son of Grand Gedeh County has issued a strong rebuke against former President George Weah, accusing him of turning his back on the legacy of the late President Samuel K. Doe and his family during his six-year tenure from 2017 to 2023.

According to the source, Weah, despite enjoying strong support from the Krahn people since his early political days in 2005, failed to demonstrate any meaningful recognition of the Doe family. Among the key grievances raised are the removal of a son of the late President Doe from government without cause and the exclusion of all Doe family members from any government appointments during Weah’s presidency.

Additionally, Weah reportedly never visited the home of the Doe family—a gesture many expected as a sign of respect. Perhaps most significantly, the Weah administration failed to organize an official state burial for the late president and did not comply with a ruling from the ECOWAS Court mandating benefits for the Doe family.

As of press time, the office of the former president hasn’t officially responded to the allegation.

For years, many Krahn people have supported Weah under the belief that he held a special affinity for their community and was the symbolic “son” of President Doe. This support has now been called into question, especially following the recent passing of the former First Lady. As the nation mourns, many wonder: will George Weah finally extend a hand of reconciliation and respect to the Doe family?
