Senator Moye Boosts Local Governance with Over L$1.3 million and Motorcycles

In a move aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and complementing national development efforts, Bong County Senator Prince Kermue Moye Sr. on Saturday, May 24, 2025, provided over L$1.3 million and three motorcycles to chiefs, commissioners, and community groups across Jorquelleh Districts 2 and 3.

The donations, made at district headquarters, were described by Senator Moye as part of his ongoing commitment to local empowerment and support for the government’s decentralization efforts under President Joseph Boakai’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID).

Among the beneficiaries were the Community Watch Forum of Jorquelleh District 3, which received L$300,000; eleven General Town Chiefs from Jorquelleh District 2, each receiving L$25,000; and three Commissioners from the same district, each given L$50,000.

Paramount Chief James Gborkorquelli received L$75,000 and a motorcycle, while Commissioner David Carchue received L$100,000. The Jorquelleh District 2 Women’s Organization and the Unity Party Frontrunners each received L$200,000. Additionally, two motorcycles were presented to the Watch Forum in District 2.

In total, the contributions amounted to L$1.3 million.

“This is just the beginning,” Senator Moye told attendees. “It is vital that lawmakers play a role in addressing the pressing needs of local leadership and helping to foster development at the community level.”

Senator Moye also expressed his intention to work closely with Bong District Two Representative James Kolleh and other county lawmakers to extend similar support across all seven political districts in Bong County.

He called on local leaders to serve with integrity and commitment, especially as the government prepares to organize chiefdom and municipal elections in line with the Local Government Act.

“I encourage our chiefs and commissioners to focus on serving the people, and I urge our citizens to respect and cooperate with their local authorities,” he added.

The senator’s initiative has been widely welcomed as a boost to local governance, underscoring the importance of collaboration between national lawmakers and community leaders in advancing development across Liberia’s counties.
