CDC Warns against Alleged Arrest Plot of Former Speaker Fonati Koffa

Monrovia, Liberia- The opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has accused the current Boakai-Koung administration of planning to arrest former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa.

In a social media statement issued by Jefferson T. Koijee, Secretary General of the CDC, the party claimed to have received “credible intelligence” indicating that government forces intend to detain Koffa on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 10 a.m.

Koijee condemned the alleged plan as a politically motivated move by what he described as the “murderous Boakai-Koung regime,” warning that any attempt to arrest the former Speaker would be met with “stiff and uncompromising resistance” from the CDC and its supporters.

“Let it be known: ANY attempt to arrest the Speaker will be met with STIFF and UNCOMPROMISING RESISTANCE! The people will not sit idle while this tyrannical regime weaponizes state power against its opponents. Touch one, touch all,” Koijee declared.

The CDC’s statement highlights rising political tensions between the opposition and the ruling party, amid concerns about the use of state institutions to suppress dissenting voices.

As of now, the government has not responded publicly to the CDC’s allegations.
