“A Sleepy Lion Is Not a Dead Lion” – EFFL Warns Unity Party Government

Congo Town, Liberia – The Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL), under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief Emmanuel Gonquoi, has issued a strong warning to the ruling Unity Party, accusing it of underperformance and ignoring the plight of the Liberian people.

Speaking at a ceremony of district leadership, CIC Gonquoi declared, “The sleepy lion is not a dead lion.” The EFFL leader criticized the government for what he described as its failure to fulfill promises made to citizens over the past two years.

“We gave the Unity Party two years. Two full years. And they have failed to do what is necessary for the citizens and the general public at large,” Gonquoi stated.

Gonquoi further stressed that the EFFL is poised to make a political comeback, with renewed energy and purpose. “I can assure them that we, as the Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia, are returning very soon. We are not afraid of the Liberia National Police, the Armed Forces of Liberia, or even the NSA.”

He also criticized government officials for being unresponsive and disconnected from the people. “Working in your government does not mean we are silent, we are watching you, Mr. President. Whenever we pick up our phones and call a minister, they do not bother to answer our calls. But very soon, we will be coming for them.”

“We brought them to power, if we ready today we will take the power from them.”

The statement has stirred political debate across the country, with some interpreting it as a sign of growing dissatisfaction within former allies of the Unity Party-led administration.

The EFFL, known for its radical approach and pro-poor advocacy, has remained relatively quiet in recent months, but Gonquoi’s message signals a shift in tone and the possible reawakening of the movement.

Observers now await the next moves of the EFFL as the political atmosphere in Liberia continues to heat up.
