CDC Lawmaker, Sen. Crayton Oldman Duncan, Says Party Failed the People of Liberia

By Preston S. Panyonnoh

Greenville, Sinoe County – In a bold and unexpected declaration, a staunch member of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) and sitting Senator of Sinoe County, Hon. Crayton Oldman Duncan, has publicly lamented that the party failed the people of Liberia, including its standard bearer, former President George Manneh Weah.

The statement was made on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at one of Greenville City’s most renowned Atayee shops, a popular hub for political and social discussions. The usually calm gathering spot buzzed with energy as the senator’s remarks sent shockwaves through the group of onlookers, many of whom were longtime CDC supporters.

Senator Duncan, speaking candidly among a crowd of curious youth, community elders, and party loyalists, admitted, “We didn’t get elected because we failed our people. The CDC government failed to deliver on the real expectations of the ordinary Liberian, and sadly, even President George Manneh Weah was let down by the very system he trusted.”

The senator’s comments have since gone viral within local social media circles, sparking a storm of political discourse across Sinoe and beyond. While Duncan refrained from naming individuals directly, he emphasized systemic failure and internal divisions within the CDC as key contributors to the party’s poor performance in the last election.

Observers say this is one of the most open and introspective criticisms ever voiced by a high-ranking CDC official since the party lost its grip on power in the 2023 general elections. Many consider Duncan’s statement both courageous and necessary at a time when citizens are demanding more accountability and transparency from their leaders.

“The people no longer believe in empty promises,” Duncan added. “We had all the tools to make Liberia better. We had the people’s trust, but somewhere along the way, we lost sight of their struggles.”

Community members who witnessed the impromptu speech said they were both surprised and encouraged by the senator’s honesty. “That’s what we need—leaders who speak the truth,” said a local vendor who requested anonymity. “We’ve suffered too long. The CDC has to reflect and change if they want to regain our trust.”

Political analysts are now speculating on whether Senator Duncan’s statement signals an internal shift within the CDC or the beginning of a broader wave of reformist thinking within the party.

As the 2026 midterm elections draw closer, all eyes will be on how the CDC responds—not only to Duncan’s candid criticism—but to the growing call for change from within its own ranks.
