The Central Bank of Liberia has kicked off the first phase of its National Financial Education & Literacy Campaign in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County — bringing essential financial knowledge directly to the people.
This nationwide initiative aims to help Liberians better manage their money, set financial goals, save, budget, borrow wisely, and understand the importance of financial services like insurance and cross-border trade.
“If our people are financially literate, it reduces stress and builds a stable economy,” said Cllr. P. Alphonsus Zeon, CBL’s Director of Communications.
The Financial Education campaign is not just about Grand Gedeh — it’s about giving every Liberian, from villages to cities, the knowledge to make smart financial decisions and contribute to national stability.
The official County launch of the Financial Education campaign took place on Monday, June 23, in Zwedru — the first step toward a more financially empowered Liberia. The training will continue across the country.
The initiative, known as Fin-ED, is being implemented in partnership with PERT Consultancy Inc. and is supported by the Central Bank of Liberia. It aims to empower local communities especially women, youth, and people living with disabilities with the knowledge and skills needed to manage their personal and household finances.
Speaking at the event, Grand Gedeh County Superintendent Honorable Alex Chersia Grant welcomed the program as a much-needed step in strengthening grassroots economic empowerment. He emphasized the importance of financial education, particularly in helping citizens understand budgeting, savings, and responsible borrowing.
FeJAL President Madam Lisa T. Diassay also spoke at the ceremony, highlighting the powerful impact of financial literacy on women and youth. She thanked the Central Bank of Liberia for its support and assured citizens of the program’s transparency and inclusion
Officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Education, LISGIS, and community-based organizations also gave remarks in support of the initiative.
The Fin-ED program will unfold in phases, featuring community training sessions, radio awareness segments, and the distribution of easy-to-understand educational materials. Organizers hope it will serve as a blueprint for national financial literacy efforts across Liberia.
