Rivercess Residents Call for Urgent Reconstruction of Nazareth Institute in Mannah Beach

Wewah Mannah Beach–Residents of Mannah Beach in the Fehn River Administrative District, Rivercess County, are urgently appealing to the national government and its development partners to assist in the reconstruction of the Nazareth Institute, a school currently operating under poor and challenging conditions.

During a recent visit by Verity News to the community, Madam Elther Weah, a respected resident, shared the history and current struggles of the school. She explained that the Nazareth Institute began as a small study group and was later expanded into a kindergarten and elementary school through the efforts of Rev. Prince Fanciah, a Monrovia-based clergyman.

Rev. Fanciah contributed six bundles of zinc to roof the initial structure, but the donation was not enough to create a fully functional and supportive learning environment.

According to Madam Weah, the school was established to address the critical shortage of teachers at the nearest school in Wleh Town, which had left many children in the region without access to basic education.

She highlighted a number of ongoing challenges, including limited seating, the absence of chalkboards and crayons, and a general lack of essential teaching materials.

These problems are worsened by parents’ reluctance or inability to pay tuition fees, which in turn leads to delays in teachers’ salaries and negatively impacts the delivery of education.

Despite these difficulties, Madam Weah revealed that there are plans to upgrade the current mat-covered round hut into a more permanent dirt brick building, which would offer a safer and more conducive learning environment.

However, she stressed that this initiative would not be possible without substantial support from the Ministry of Education and other development actors.

She also issued a call to action to parents, local authorities, and concerned citizens to unite in building a proper school facility that would ensure children in the area receive the quality education they deserve.

“We are appealing to the government, our education authorities, and all well-meaning citizens to help us build a proper dirt brick school. Our children deserve better,” she urged
.

The Nazareth Institute currently serves dozens of children from Mannah Beach and nearby villages, many of whom may be forced out of school if urgent action is not taken to improve the facility.
