Monrovia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has described the late former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, as a towering figure in African politics and governance whose leadership left an indelible mark on the continent.
President Boakai made the statement on Wednesday when he visited the Nigerian Embassy near Monrovia to sign the Book of Condolence for the late leader. The Liberian President expressed heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Nigeria, describing Buhari as a steadfast statesman and committed servant of the Nigerian people.
“The Government and People of Liberia stand in solemn solidarity with the Federal Republic of Nigeria as you mourn the loss of a towering figure in African politics and governance,” President Boakai wrote in his condolence message. “President Buhari’s legacy of service and devotion to national and continental peace will not be forgotten. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
President Boakai was received at the Embassy by Madam Rahmat O. Mohammed, Charge d’Affaires, along with other members of the Nigerian diplomatic mission.
The Liberian leader extended sympathy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the bereaved family, and the people of Nigeria, noting the longstanding bond of brotherhood between Liberia and Nigeria. He emphasized that President Buhari’s leadership contributed immensely to regional peace, democracy, and development, particularly during Liberia’s most difficult moments.
The visit underscores Liberia’s deep respect for Nigeria’s role in supporting stability and democracy across West Africa.
