President Boakai Launches Liberia AI Challenge 2025 to Empower Youth

By Preston S Panyonnoh

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has officially launched the Liberia AI Challenge 2025, a groundbreaking national initiative aimed at empowering young Liberians to harness the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for national development.

The high-level event took place this afternoon at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, bringing together tech enthusiasts, students, innovators, and government officials.

The Liberia AI Challenge 2025 seeks to identify, mentor, and support the next generation of tech-savvy Liberians by engaging them in a series of activities focused on developing AI-driven solutions to real-world problems.

According to the Office of the President, the AI Challenge is part of President Boakai’s broader vision to create a digitally inclusive Liberia, where young people are not only consumers but also creators of technological innovation.

“This challenge is not just about coding or machines,” a senior aide in the Ministry of Education said. “It’s about equipping young Liberians with the mindset and tools to solve challenges in agriculture, healthcare, education, and governance using artificial intelligence.”

Expected Outcomes

The initiative is expected to:

Inspire digital innovation among young people.

Promote skills in data science, coding, and ethical AI.

Bridge the gap between education and real-world technological solutions.

President Boakai used the platform to call on development partners, academic institutions, and the private sector to support Liberia’s journey into the digital future.

With rapid global advancements in AI, robotics, and automation, the Liberia AI Challenge 2025 positions the country to participate meaningfully in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Observers say the President’s involvement in the initiative reflects his commitment to innovation, youth development, and inclusive national progress.
