The Association of Judicial Reporters of Liberia (AJURL) has officially congratulated Chief Justice Yarmie Quiqui Gbeisay on his recent confirmation by the Liberian Senate, calling the event a pivotal moment for the nation’s judicial system.
In a statement released Thursday, AJURL described Chief Justice Gbeisay’s confirmation as both timely and significant, noting that it marks a fresh opportunity to promote fairness, professionalism, and reform in the courts.
“Chief Justice Gbeisay’s confirmation reflects not only his deep legal knowledge but also his longstanding integrity,” the association stated.
“This confirmation signals the beginning of a more dynamic and impartial era for Liberia’s judiciary.”
The group also commended President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for nominating Justice Gbeisay and the Senate for swiftly confirming him, viewing the process as a reflection of the government’s strong commitment to the rule of law and equitable justice.
“This move by the Executive and Legislative branches reinforces Liberia’s dedication to justice that is prompt, fair, and free from political influence,” the release noted.
AJURL, which represents court reporters across Liberia, urged Chief Justice Gbeisay to prioritize comprehensive judicial reforms aimed at restoring public confidence in the legal system.
The association encouraged the new Chief Justice to remain bold and impartial in his rulings, staying true to the Liberian Constitution.
“We call on His Honor to interpret and apply the law without fear or favor,” said AJURL President Yassah Natasha Wright.
In closing, the association pledged continued collaboration with the Judiciary, vowing to uphold journalistic ethics in its coverage of legal affairs and to play its part in fostering better communication between the courts and the public.
“AJURL remains committed to informing the public and promoting greater understanding of the judiciary’s work,” Wright added.
Chief Justice Gbeisay’s confirmation comes amid rising calls for increased transparency and efficiency in Liberia’s legal system, with many hoping his leadership will usher in a new era of trust and accountability in the nation’s courts.
