President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is set to inaugurate two newly constructed senior secondary schools in Gbarnga, Bong County, and Ganta, Nimba County on Monday, July 21, marking a significant step forward in the government’s mission to expand access to quality education across Liberia.
The schools were developed through the Ministry of Education with financial and technical support from the World Bank’s Improving Results in Secondary Education (IRISE) Project.
The initiative falls under the government’s broader strategy to bolster educational infrastructure, particularly in rural and underserved regions.
Each school is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including science and computer laboratories, furnished classrooms, administrative buildings, gender-sensitive restrooms, clean water supply, recreational areas, and perimeter fencing.
These features are designed to provide a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students, with a strong emphasis on promoting girls’ education.
The schools are part of Component 1 of the IRISE Project, which focuses on enhancing access and improving learning environments at the senior secondary level.
A third school, currently under construction in Kakata, Margibi County, is expected to be completed and dedicated later this year.
Enrollment and staffing at the new schools will be based strictly on merit.
The Ministry of Education has pledged that only top-performing students from the counties will be admitted, and teachers will be carefully vetted to ensure high instructional standards.
President Boakai’s participation in the dedication ceremony underscores his administration’s focus on human capital development, a central pillar of his ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.
Education Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah has played a leading role in the initiative, advocating for greater investment in educational infrastructure and equitable learning opportunities.
Under her leadership, the Ministry of Education has been pushing for reforms aimed at enhancing quality and inclusion across all levels of Liberia’s education system.
