Criminal Court ‘C’ Judge Joe S. Barkon on Thursday, July 17, handed down a four-year prison sentence to Peach Bility, the son of Nimba District #7 Representative Musa Bility, for drug-related offenses.
The sentence comes following a plea-bargaining agreement between the Ministry of Justice and Bility’s legal team.
Bility, who had earlier pleaded guilty, was arrested by the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency and held in pre-trial detention.
Judge Barkon credited time already served and suspended eight months of the sentence, reducing the total time Bility will spend in prison.
At a hearing on July 9, Bility confessed to his involvement in drug activities.
He attributed his addiction to peer pressure and expressed remorse for his actions.
In an emotional appeal for leniency, he pledged to use his experience as a lesson and committed to becoming an ambassador against drug abuse in Liberia.
“I made mistakes, but I am ready to rebuild my life and help others avoid the same path,” Bility told the court.
The case has drawn public attention due to Bility’s political lineage, sparking renewed conversations about drug use among youth and accountability, regardless of status.
The Ministry of Justice has emphasized that the sentencing demonstrates the government’s continued commitment to tackling drug-related crimes across all levels of society.
