Nimba County– Towel Town in the Boe/Quellah Administrative District and Yorpea Old Town in the Kparblee Administrative District have received long-awaited police stations, with officers now officially deployed to both locations.
The initiative was led by District #6 Representative Dorwahn Twain Gleekia, who commissioned two modern police stations in response to years of complaints about growing lawlessness and insecurity in Lower Nimba.
Each facility, according to Representative Gleekia, cost approximately USD $17,000.
Speaking at dedication ceremonies in both towns, Nimba County Police Commander ACP Larmie Mendin praised Representative Gleekia for supporting law enforcement and emphasized that the project aligns with the vision of Inspector General Gregory W. Coleman to expand police presence nationwide.
ACP Mendin called on residents and local leaders to warmly welcome and support the officers assigned to their communities.
Also speaking at the events was Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Douwue Goldoe, regional commander for Nimba, Bong, and Lofa counties, delivered remarks on behalf of IG Coleman.
She thanked Representative Gleekia for his commitment and urged him to consider providing housing units for the officers, noting that stable accommodations would help enhance their performance and effectiveness.
DCOP Goldoe also challenged members of the Community Watch Forum (CWF) to meet the necessary requirements for recruitment into the Liberia National Police (LNP), as part of ongoing efforts to professionalize and strengthen community policing.
Meanwhile, residents of both administrative districts described the arrival of police stations as a “dream come true” after 178 years without formal law enforcement presence.
