Assistant Minister Lamin Reaffirms Liberia’s Climate Commitment Under ARREST Agenda

The Government of Liberia has reiterated its strong commitment to climate action under the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.

This reaffirmation was made by Hon. Paul T. Lamin, Assistant Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), at the close of a regional climate workshop in Buchanan.

The two-day workshop, held from August 7–8, focused on raising awareness around climate change and financing mechanisms for local governments.

Its primary objective was to support climate-resilient and child-sensitive development planning, especially in communities most affected by environmental challenges.

“This workshop is vital to our national progress, particularly in advancing climate finance and action at the local government level,” said Asst. Minister Lamin.

He expressed gratitude to UNICEF and Green Life West Africa for their collaboration and reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to meeting its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) 3.0 targets ahead of the August 2025 deadline.

UNICEF’s Officer-in-Charge, Amadou Cisse, emphasized the urgency of securing sustainable financing to safeguard vulnerable children from the adverse effects of climate change.

“Only initiatives led by the government can generate the scale of resources required to address this crisis,” he noted, while highlighting UNICEF’s partnership with MFDP in driving the national climate agenda.

Mr. Fodeh Bayoh Jr., Coordinator of the Climate Integration and Financing Office, called on local authorities to identify climate-smart projects and promote stronger collaboration across sectors.

His office is responsible for integrating climate considerations into national planning and securing funding for resilience-building programs.

The workshop brought together local officials from Grand Bassa, Grand Cape Mount, Bomi, Gbarpolu, Montserrado, Rivercess, and Sinoe counties, alongside senior MFDP personnel and key development partners.
