House of Representatives Denies Plot to Remove Deputy Speaker Fallah

Capitol Hill, Monrovia ~ The House of Representatives has firmly denied widespread media reports alleging a plot to unseat Deputy Speaker Thomas P. Fallah, calling the claims “unfounded,” “baseless,” and “political gossip.”

In an official statement issued on Friday, the House dismissed the reports, which suggest that a group within the Legislature is seeking to replace Deputy Speaker Fallah with Representative Sekou Kanneh, Chairman on Executive. Lawmakers described the rumors as “pure fabrication,” emphasizing that there is no ongoing plan, discussion, or resolution ~ either formal or informal ~ regarding Fallah’s removal.

“At no point has the House entertained any idea of replacing the Deputy Speaker,” the statement clarified.

Currently, Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon and Hon. Sekou Kanneh are out of the country on official legislative duties, while Deputy Speaker Fallah is acting in the capacity of Speaker.

A long-serving member of the Legislature since 2005, Hon. Fallah is one of the most senior lawmakers in the country and is often referred to by his colleagues as the “Doyen of the Legislature.” According to the statement, he enjoys the full support and confidence of both Speaker Koon and the broader membership of the House.

The House also called on members of the press to adhere to ethical standards and avoid publishing what it termed “propaganda.”

We call on the media to uphold professional and ethical journalism, rather than engaging in the circulation of propaganda,” the statement read.

The release was signed by Robert Benjamin Haynes, Director of Press & Public Affairs, who reaffirmed the House’s commitment to serving the Liberian people with “integrity, focus, and unity.”
