The Deputy Director for Administration at the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA), Hon. Helena M. Doe-Knuckles, has officially resigned, leaving a significant leadership gap at the nation’s only international airport.
Appointed by President Joseph Nyumah Boakai in 2024, Madam Doe-Knuckles has tendered her resignation to the LAA management. Her departure took effect as of Friday, August 15, 2025, according to a leaked internal memo, copy of which is in possession of this paper. The management of LAA has acknowledged receipt of her resignation letter.
While the exact reason for her resignation remains undisclosed, credible sources familiar with the matter hinted Verity Newspaper that a deteriorating working relationship between Madam Doe-Knuckles and other top managers, including the Managing Director, may have played a central role.
Insider reports allege a growing atmosphere of mistrust, administrative friction, and financial mismanagement among top LAA executives.
Moreover, a highly placed employee, who prefers anonymity, confirmed internal struggles over transparency and accountability, alleging systemic corruption and resistance to reform within the institution.
“The system here is toxic, unprocedural, and corrupt. Madam Doe-Knuckles insisted on reforms amid deepening internal impasse and alleged corruption but to no avail. That prompted her exit,” the employee said.
As of press time, the Liberia Airport Authority has not issued an official statement regarding Doe-Knuckles’s resignation, plans to fill the vacant position, or claims of internal conflict.
This resignation comes at a crucial time for the LAA, which is tasked with overseeing the nation’s vital aviation infrastructure and ensuring international compliance and safety standards.
