The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Liberia National Office, has officially released the provisional results for the 2025 national examinations, while also unveiling plans for a major curriculum expansion beginning in 2026.
During a press conference held in Congo Town on Friday, August 15, WAEC Liberia boss, Mr. Dale G. Gbotoe, announced the release of results for four key national assessments:
West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
Liberia Junior High School Certificate Examination (LJHSCE)
Liberia Primary School Certificate Examination (LPSCE)
Liberia National Assessment Test (LNAT)
Mr. Gbotoe reported encouraging improvements in student performance, especially in the LJHSCE, LPSCE, and LNAT. He credited the steady progress to educational reforms implemented since the introduction of national standardized testing in 2018.
For the 2025 WASSCE, a total of 51,719 candidates were registered and examined across 379 centers nationwide. The performance breakdown includes:
822 candidates passed at least five subjects, including English and Mathematics, with credit passes.
28,576 candidates passed at least five subjects, including English and Mathematics, with any grade.
37,081 candidates passed at least four subjects, including English and Mathematics.
42,970 candidates passed at least three subjects, including English and Mathematics.
However, results for 1,944 candidates have been withheld due to suspected examination malpractice. Investigations into these cases are ongoing.
Looking ahead, Mr. Gbotoe announced a significant curriculum reform for the 2026 WASSCE. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, WAEC-Liberia will introduce 39 new subjects, giving candidates the opportunity to select nine subjects tailored to their academic strengths and career aspirations. The move aims to provide greater academic flexibility and ensure relevance in a rapidly evolving job market.
In addition, certificates for the 2023 examinations have been printed and will be available for distribution starting December 2025. Early registration for the 2026 exams will begin in September 2025 and continue through December 2025.
Also speaking at the event, Deputy Minister for Instructions at the ministry of education, Hon. Amos Fully, lauded WAEC-Liberia for the smooth conduct of the 2025 exams and praised the government for its sustained commitment to improving education under the leadership of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.
“We applaud WAEC-Liberia’s dedication to maintaining high standards in education,” said Hon. Fully. “We urge school authorities to take full advantage of the early registration window to ensure timely preparation for the 2026 exams.”
The release of the 2025 results and the announcement of curriculum enhancements signal a continued push toward academic excellence and educational reform in Liberia.
