PUP Youth League Chair Resigns Amid Corruption Concerns

The National Youth League Chair of the People’s Unification Party (PUP), Joseph Orland Beyan ~ widely known as JOB ~ has tendered his resignation from both his leadership position and membership in the party, citing persistent corruption and internal disarray.

In a formal resignation letter, Mr. Beyan accused senior officials within the PUP of engaging in corrupt practices, adding that the party has failed to act on allegations despite sanctions imposed by the U.S. government on some of its top executives.

“The party has made no effort to investigate those implicated,” Beyan wrote, expressing disappointment over what he described as the PUP’s departure from its founding principles.

JOB, a founding member of the PUP’s youth wing, said he joined the party in 2014 with the hope of advancing opportunities for young Liberians and lifting citizens out of poverty. However, he now believes the party has strayed far from that mission.

Internal conflicts have overshadowed progress and stifled growth within the PUP,” he added, while acknowledging that his decision to resign may seem long overdue. Nonetheless, he emphasized that it reflects a sincere desire for accountability and transparency.

Despite his criticisms, Mr. Beyan extended thanks to the party for the platform it provided him and wished it well in its future pursuits.

His resignation adds to growing concerns about internal divisions and alleged ethical lapses within one of Liberia’s key political parties.
