PUP Youth Congress Dismisses Beyan’s Leadership Claims, Reaffirms Alignment With Political Leader Nuquay

The National Youth Congress of the People’s Unification Party (PUP) has officially rejected claims made by its former Youth League Chairman, Joseph Orlando Beyan, asserting that he was expelled from the party as far back as 2023 and no longer holds any leadership position.

In an official press release dated August 20, 2025, the Youth Congress accused Mr. Beyan of “falsely impersonating” the Chairmanship, saying his recent communications were misleading and intended to sow confusion within the party.

Mr. Beyan was removed through a resolution passed by the majority of Youth Congress members due to actions considered inimical to the values and objectives of the PUP,” the statement read. “He therefore lacks the moral rectitude to question the credibility or integrity of any Executive Committee member of the PUP.”

The Congress further addressed recent comments made by Beyan regarding Senator Emmanuel Nuquay, who was previously named in a U.S. State Department human rights report. The party stressed that the claims remain unproven and that Senator Nuquay is the only person who has challenged the allegations in court.

“The U.S. State Department’s statement was, and remains, an allegation. To suggest that the party should act outside the principles of due process and fairness is not only unreasonable but reflects what can best be described as street-corner reasoning,” the statement said.

Signed by Acting Youth Chairman Kaba Mulbah, the PUP Youth Congress reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, transparency, and the rule of law, urging supporters and the general public to reject “misleading narratives” and stay focused on the party’s mission to serve the Liberian people.

However, when contacted for comment, Joseph Orlando Beyan dismissed the Youth Congress’ claims, maintaining that he remains the legitimate Chair of the youth wing. According to him, an attempt to remove him was made, but it was ultimately overturned.

“There was an attempted plot against me, but it didn’t materialize,” Beyan said. “The National Executive Committee nullified their decision based on insufficient evidence against me.”

The conflicting accounts between the Youth Congress and Mr. Beyan add to growing tensions within the PUP’s youth wing, even as the party attempts to present a united front ahead of upcoming political engagements.
