Monrovia, Liberia – The Inspector General of the Liberia National Police (LNP), Gregory Coleman, has issued a statement, commending the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) for its disciplined and calm response during a recent eviction process. In his remarks, IG Coleman emphasized the CDC’s respect for the rule of law, highlighting the significance of this conduct amidst the strong emotional ties to the property involved.
“Your respect for the rule of law, despite the deep sentiment of value and history attached to the property, reflects a maturity that strengthens Liberia’s democracy,” Coleman stated.
He described the situation as a test of the CDC’s leadership and a crucial reminder to all political institutions and citizens that democracy flourishes when lawful decisions are acknowledged and accepted peacefully.
The Inspector General reassured the public of the LNP’s commitment to protecting every citizen, community, and institution without bias. He noted that the LNP will continue engaging with all political parties, civil society organizations, and communities to ensure spaces for peaceful and democratic participation are maintained.
Coleman reaffirmed the LNP’s role as a neutral and professional institution, dedicated to upholding the law while safeguarding the dignity and rights of all individuals. He expressed gratitude to the officers of the LNP and the Joint Security forces for their exemplary conduct during the eviction operation, as well as to the court sheriff involved.
In concluding his statement, Coleman called for unity and stability in Liberia, declaring that by upholding peace and the rule of law, the nation can progress together. “We can build a Liberia defined not by division, but by unity, stability, and shared progress,” he said.
The LNP’s statement comes as a significant endorsement of the lawful handling of sensitive political matters, reinforcing the importance of maintaining peace and fostering democratic values in the country.
