The Women NGOs Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL) has taken center stage at the ongoing Conference on Information Integrity in West Africa and the Sahel, a high-level regional gathering focused on fostering truth, transparency, and responsible public information management across the sub-region.
The three-day conference brings together civil society leaders, government officials, and international partners to tackle the growing challenges of misinformation, disinformation, and exclusion in public data access.
Representing Liberia, WONGOSOL is actively contributing to discussions aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and advancing inclusive transparency.
During a key breakout session titled “Proactive Data Disclosure and Internal Management of Public Information,” WONGOSOL Executive Director Madam Esther S. D. Yango highlighted the organization’s groundbreaking Women and Access to Information project.
The initiative, supported by the Embassy of Ireland in Monrovia through the Carter Center Liberia, is designed to break down systemic barriers that prevent women from accessing public information and to advocate for gender-sensitive transparency policies at both national and local levels.
“Our work continues to focus on ensuring that women and marginalized groups are not left behind in national and regional conversations on transparency and accountability,” said Madam Yango. “This conference is a powerful reminder that access to accurate and timely information is not just a right—it is a tool for empowerment.”
WONGOSOL also extended sincere appreciation to the National Democratic Institute (NDI) for facilitating its participation in the conference, recognizing the importance of Liberian voices in shaping the regional agenda on information integrity.
The conference, which continues through the week, features expert-led panel discussions, strategic working sessions, and peer exchanges among civil society actors.
It aims to build regional capacity in fighting disinformation, improving access to public information, and developing tools for accountable governance.
With its presence at the conference, WONGOSOL reaffirms its commitment to advocating for inclusive governance and ensuring that women’s voices are central to transparency efforts across West Africa and the Sahel.
