Monrovia, Liberia — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has appointed Mr. F. Alphonso Y. Belleh as the Acting Deputy Minister for Youth Development at the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The appointment comes in the wake of the suspension of Deputy Minister Bryant McGill, who is facing allegations of raping a 14-year-old minor.
According to a statement issued by the Executive Mansion on Friday, President Boakai emphasized the need for continuity and strong leadership within the Ministry to maintain the momentum of programs designed to empower Liberia’s youth.
In his appointment, the President highlighted the importance of uninterrupted leadership within the Ministry of Youth and Sports to ensure the effective implementation of programs that empower and inspire Liberia’s young people.
The President also called on all stakeholders to offer their full support to Acting Deputy Minister Belleh as he takes on his new role in service to the nation.
Deputy Minister Bryant McGill was suspended on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, amid growing public outrage over the alleged rape incident. The Executive Mansion has not confirmed whether formal charges have been filed, but authorities say investigations are ongoing.
