Harbel City, Margibi ~ The Siakeh Foundation has strongly condemned what it describes as a “sickening and heartbreaking” act of alleged police brutality against a gas station employee, calling for immediate accountability and justice.
The incident, which surfaced on social media, allegedly involves a member of the Police Support Unit (PSU) assaulting Francis Michael Deelo, a staff member at Conex Gas Station, during nighttime hours. Video footage circulating online appears to show a uniformed officer physically attacking the worker, sparking outrage from citizens and civil society groups.
In a statement issued on Wednesday morning, the Foundation’s Executive Director and CEO, Mr. Thur Siekai, expressed deep concern and pledged to pursue the matter until justice is served.
“What we saw on social media ~ a police officer brutally assaulting a gas station worker ~ is sickening, heartbreaking, and totally unacceptable,” Siekai said. “No human being, no matter their status or uniform, has the right to humiliate, beat, or degrade another person. This is a gross violation of human rights and dignity, and it cannot be swept under the rug.”
Mr. Siekai confirmed that the Foundation is actively engaging with the management of Conex and plans to visit the police station involved to investigate the full details of the incident.
“Justice for all is not a slogan — it’s a right. The police are meant to protect and serve, not harass and harm. We will follow this to the end because no one is above the law. Enough is enough,” the release concluded.
The Siakeh Foundation, known for its advocacy in human rights and social justice, is calling on the Liberia National Police and relevant oversight bodies to take swift and transparent action.
As of press time, the Liberia National Police has not issued an official statement on the incident.
