The Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) has concluded its preliminary investigation into the recent fire at the former residence of ex-President George Manneh Weah, determining that the blaze was caused by an electrical fault.
This conclusion was announced despite reports suggesting that fire investigators may have faced obstructions that limited their ability to conduct a full and thorough examination of the property.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT)’s regular press briefing on Thursday, Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs, Daniel Sando, confirmed the LNFS findings. He stated that investigators had firmly attributed the fire to an electrical malfunction.
While commending the LNFS for its swift response in containing the fire and preventing further damage, Sando voiced concern over allegations that fire investigators were denied full access to the premises.
He noted that, if accurate, such interference could have seriously compromised the integrity of the investigation.
Separately, Sando addressed rumors circulating on social media regarding Vice President Jeremiah Koung’s recent trip to Ghana.
He dismissed claims that the trip was medically motivated, clarifying that the Vice President traveled for personal reasons and is expected to return to Liberia soon.
