Ministry of Health, Partners Commemorate World Contraceptive Day in Zwedru

By D. Abraham Cooper, Sr.

The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with BRAC Liberia and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), on Friday, September 26, 2025, commemorated World Contraceptive Day in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County. The event was held under the theme: “A Choice for All, Freedom to Plan, Power to Choose.”

The occasion brought together a diverse group of participants, including students, commercial motorcyclists, health practitioners, media representatives, and community members.

World Contraceptive Day is observed annually on September 26 to raise awareness about the importance of family planning and safe contraceptive use, including condoms, in promoting healthier families and brighter futures.

Serving as keynote speaker, Dr. Princess Blamo urged citizens ~ especially young people ~ to take advantage of reproductive health services provided at the Youth-Friendly Center at Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital. She emphasized the need to understand both the benefits and potential side effects of various contraceptive methods.

As part of the day’s activities, organizers, along with student and motorcyclist volunteers, distributed more than 200 packs of condoms to members of the public, reinforcing the message of safe and responsible sexual behavior.

Participants at the event applauded the Ministry of Health and its partners for the awareness initiative and called for expanded outreach to towns and rural communities throughout the county and Liberia at large.
