LFA continues secrecy around national team’s departure

By Danesius Marteh

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has, for the umpteenth time, refused to disclose the national team delegations.

Liberia will conclude the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Equatorial Guinea in Malabo at 13:00 GMT (1:00PM in Liberia) on 13 October.

The LFA only announced the team’s departure via Liberia’s men’s national team Facebook page.

“Early flight! Off to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea,” it posted on 11 October at 6:23AM.

When the team arrived, it wrote: “The Lone Star delegation has safely landed in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea,” on 11 October at 4:34PM.

The men’s under-17 are participating in the West African Football Union (Wafu Zone A) qualifiers in Bamako, Mali.

“Our under-17 boys are off to Bamako for the WAFU ‘A’ Afcon qualifiers,” it said on 30 September at 6:09AM.

The heads of delegations and traveling personnel are unknown as the squad lists are revealed prior to departure.

While Liberia surprisingly defeated Namibia 3-1 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe sports complex in Paynesville on 9 October, it hasn’t been smooth sailing for the under-17.

They lost 6-0 to hosts Mali at the Stade Mamadou Konate on 5 October and 4-0 to Gambia at the Stade Koulikoro on 8 October in Bamako.
