Wayzohn City, Grand Bassa County — The community of Jessey Briggs is reeling after the discovery of an unconscious child, identified only as Jewulu, believed to be between 14 and 15 years old. The boy was reportedly found lying in an unfinished gas station late this week by a close relative.
According to the relative, who asked not to be named, Jewulu was allegedly struck with a stick at a gold mining site where illegal mining activities are said to be taking place. The relative, identifying herself as the child’s aunt, said she was in the process of taking him to the Liberia Agriculture Company (LAC) Hospital for treatment when he lost consciousness.
Authorities have since been alerted, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. Details remain unclear as to what led to the alleged assault or the child’s current condition.
Community members have expressed alarm over the situation, calling for swift action by local authorities to address illegal mining and ensure the safety of children in the area.
Police and health officials have yet to issue an official statement.
