Public Transport Gets Major Boost as NTA Unveils 35 New TATA Buses

The National Transit Authority (NTA) has taken a major step toward revitalizing Liberia’s public transportation network with the arrival of thirty-five brand-new buses. The first batch of a total sixty-vehicle fleet being procured under an agreement with ABK Motors Incorporated.

Approved earlier this year by the NTA Board of Directors, the procurement includes 35 TATA 62-seater mass transit buses, 20 18-seater mini-buses, and 5 heavy-duty cargo trucks. The initiative, MOT says, is part of a broader effort to strengthen the NTA’s operational capacity and provide efficient, affordable, and reliable transport services across the country.

Significantly, the inclusion of cargo-handling trucks marks the first time in the NTA’s history that such services will be available, expanding the Authority’s role beyond passenger transport to logistics and goods movement.

NTA management described the arrival of the first batch as a “major milestone” in the Government of Liberia’s commitment to modernizing the nation’s transportation infrastructure. The additional mini-buses and cargo trucks are expected to arrive in the coming months.

“This investment underscores the government’s dedication to improving mobility, accessibility, and economic growth for all Liberians,” the NTA said in a statement.

The new fleet is expected to be deployed across major routes nationwide, providing thousands of commuters with safer and more reliable travel options.
