Three Sent to Prison Over Alleged Corruption at Lofa County University

By Morlu F. Freeman Sr.

VOINJAMA, Lofa County ~ The 10th Judicial Circuit Court in Lofa County has ordered the detention of three individuals at the Voinjama Central Prison following their indictment by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) in connection with an alleged corruption scandal at the Lofa County University (LCU).

Those sent to prison include Mr. Peter Taylor, Mr. Alieu Kamara, and Mr. Moiselekie K. Duwana. According to court records, the trio was indicted after an LACC investigation reportedly uncovered acts of financial malpractice at the university.

The decision was handed down during the Court’s November Term sitting, presided over by His Honor Pape Suah, Assigned Circuit Judge in Voinjama. The case was formally presented by LACC Chief Prosecutor, Cllr. Bobby Livingstone.

Court documents revealed that the defendants were detained due to their failure to file a valid criminal appearance bond since September 6, 2025, as required under Liberian law.

The LACC, in a statement following the court’s decision, reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all individuals accused of corruption face due process. The Commission stressed its ongoing mission to promote integrity, transparency, and accountability within Liberia’s public institutions.

The anti-corruption body has recently intensified efforts to tackle graft across public sectors, as part of a broader national campaign to restore public confidence in governance.

This latest case, involving officials linked to Lofa County University, marks another milestone in the LACC’s continuing drive to combat corruption and uphold the rule of law across the country.
