The campus of AME University came alive on Friday as students, families, faculty, and distinguished guests gathered for the institution’s grand 2025 Commencement Convocation, a celebration of academic excellence, perseverance, and faith.
This year, more than 800 graduates proudly crossed the stage to receive their degrees, marking a significant milestone in their educational journeys. Among them were 754 undergraduates awarded bachelor’s degrees and nearly 50 postgraduate students who earned master’s degrees across various disciplines.
Leading the Class of 2025 was Ms. Mashamie Sheriff, an exceptional scholar from the Department of Biology. Ms. Sheriff, who graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry, delivered the valedictory address.
Her achievement, university officials said, reflects her unwavering commitment to hard work and academic excellence.
“Ms. Sheriff embodies the spirit of determination and brilliance that defines the AME University tradition,” remarked a university spokesperson. “Her success inspires her peers and future generations to strive for greatness.”
The weeklong series of events leading up to commencement highlighted both celebration and reflection. On Sunday, November 9, the Baccalaureate Service was held at the historic Eliza Turner AME Church, where hundreds of graduating students gathered in thanksgiving expressing gratitude to God for His guidance and blessings throughout their academic journey.
Earlier in the week, on Monday, November 11, AME University hosted its Honors and Awards Program, recognizing about 80 outstanding students for exceptional academic performance. Honors were bestowed in several categories, including Dean’s Honor, Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Summa Cum Laude distinctions.
As the Class of 2025 prepares to embark on new paths, whether in the workforce, graduate studies, or public service, the ceremony stood as a poignant reminder of what AME University represents: a commitment to excellence, integrity, and community upliftment.
“This commencement is more than a ceremony,” said an official from the Office of Academic Affairs. “It’s a celebration of resilience, faith, and the transformative power of education.”
For the graduates, their families, and the entire AME University community, the 2025 Commencement Convocation was not just the end of an academic journey, it was the beginning of new opportunities, new dreams, and renewed hope for the future.
