MPC Leader Freeman Proposes Converting Executive Mansion Into Five-Star Hotel

By Myean D Torgbean / Emmanuel M Kangar Jr.

The Political Leader of the Movement for Progressive Change (MPC), Simeon Freeman, on Tuesday outlined a bold and unconventional vision for the country’s most iconic political structure ~ the Executive Mansion.

Speaking to the press in Monrovia, Freeman said that if elected President of Liberia, he would convert the Executive Mansion into a five-star hotel as a means of generating revenue for the nation.

“If I am the President of Liberia, I will turn the Executive Mansion into a five-star hotel that will generate revenue for the country,” Freeman said. He questioned the current use of the building, noting that it has long been occupied by the Ministry of State rather than serving as an active presidential residence.

“What’s the essence of that building being occupied by the Ministry of State? The presidency can run from existing ministries, while the Mansion can be used to generate revenue for the country,” he added.

Freeman’s remarks immediately sparked conversations among observers, with supporters praising the idea as innovative and critics describing it as impractical for a national symbol. The Executive Mansion, traditionally the home and office of the Liberian President, has undergone multiple renovations over the years following fire incidents and structural concerns.

As discussions intensify ahead of the next election cycle, Freeman’s proposal adds a new and provocative talking point to Liberia’s national debate on governance, economic diversification, and the use of state assets.
