Margibi County — In a significant milestone for local governance and community development, the Unification City Corporation, led by its Mayoress Madam Judith Smith, on Saturday, November 29, 2025, officially dedicated the newly renovated and refurbished City Headquarters. The event drew an impressive turnout of town chiefs, governors, traditional leaders, and key stakeholders who gathered to celebrate the transformation of one of the city’s most essential public facilities.
The refurbished headquarters now features a modernized administrative block, including offices for key officials of the City Corporation, a fully equipped and presentable conference room, supervisors’ and managers’ offices, and an upgraded warehouse, among other functional spaces. The makeover is expected to enhance service delivery and improve working conditions for city staff.
Hon. John D. Davis, who served as the guest speaker for the dedicatory ceremony, applauded Mayoress Smith for her visionary leadership and commitment to progress. He noted that the improvements at the headquarters were not achieved overnight but were the result of deliberate planning and execution.
“This didn’t happen yesterday, and we’re proud to see this improvement here,” Hon. Davis said. “’Development’ aligned with President Joseph Boakai’s agenda, and seeing an appointee demonstrating it, we are proud of you.”
Providing an overview of the project, Mayoress Smith outlined the extensive scope of the renovation. According to her, the work included complete roofing and re-zincing of the building, tiling of the floors, repainting of interior and exterior walls, and repairing damaged doors and windows. A monument-like signboard now stands at the front of the headquarters, giving the building a renewed and dignified appearance.
Mayoress Smith also highlighted the deplorable condition of the facility prior to her administration. She confirmed that upon taking office, she received neither financial nor official turnover from the previous leadership, a situation she described as challenging but motivating.
Unification City, the closest urban center to Liberia’s international gateway ~ Roberts International Airport ~ continues to struggle with the longstanding issue of being excluded from the national budget. This financial constraint, repeatedly flagged by past and present city leaders, has hindered development efforts but has not derailed initiatives like the recent renovation.
The dedication of the City Headquarters marks a renewed era of growth and optimism for Unification City, with residents hopeful that such improvements signal more progress to come.
