Activist Martin K. N. Kollie is urging companies and institutions operating in Liberia to create meaningful employment opportunities for people living with disabilities.
Speaking through proxy journalist Emmanuel M. Kangar Jr. during the 2025 celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Margibi County, Kollie emphasized that individuals with disabilities are capable of contributing significantly if given the chance.
“If our people who are living with disabilities are given the opportunity to work within their own scope, they will certainly not be a burden,” Kangar said on Kollie’s behalf. “Some are even feeling discouraged about life because they’re not seeing any hope or purpose.”
Kollie also used the occasion to encourage persons with disabilities to embrace their identity and pursue happiness despite life’s challenges.
“Feel proud of yourself,” he added. “Don’t lose hope because of your condition.”
The activist’s message highlighted both the responsibility of institutions to provide equal opportunities and the need for continued empowerment of persons with disabilities across Liberia.
