CDC Secretary General Jefferson T. Koijee Brands Ruling UP a “Gang of Thieves,” Claims $1.3M Allegedly Diverted

By Rufus Divine Brooks Jr

The Secretary-General of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Jefferson T. Koijee, has accused the ruling Unity Party (UP) of systemic corruption, alleging that over US$1.3 million, intended for anti-corruption and public utility budgets, was diverted into a partisan political event.

In a recent social media post, Koijee described the government as a “Gang of Thieves and State Looters,” claiming the funds were improperly rerouted from institutions such as the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), and Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC).

According to him, the money was not disbursed through official budgetary channels, but instead was allegedly handed directly to individuals, a move he condemned as a deliberate bypass of accountability.

Koijee argued that the misuse of public funds for what he called the “December 6 Mobilization” reflects a broader collapse of institutional integrity and a deep neglect of essential services.

He warned that such diversion of resources illustrates a government more interested in enriching its supporters than providing for the welfare of ordinary Liberians.
