“I Am Unshaken” — Pres. Boakai Tells Critics, Says Media Stories Cannot Destroy His Legacy

Monrovia, Liberia — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., on Friday, struck a defiant yet conciliatory tone as he met with members of the Executive Mansion Press Corps, declaring that no media report positive or critical can diminish his legacy or deter him from serving the Liberian people.

“Write it or not,” the President said, “there is nothing you can say about me at this age that can destroy me. I have lived my life.”

The President made the remarks during a constructive engagement with independent journalists assigned to cover the Presidency, held at his home in Rehab. The meeting formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen communication, transparency, and mutual respect between the Presidency and the media.

President Boakai emphasized the indispensable role of the press in a democratic society, describing independent and responsible journalism as a pillar of accountability and public trust. He encouraged journalists to uphold professionalism, accuracy, and fairness, while assuring them of his Administration’s readiness to provide access to timely and credible information.

“I respect the work you do,” Boakai told the Press Corps. “The Liberian people deserve the truth, and my government will not shy away from scrutiny.”

During the interaction, members of the Executive Mansion Press Corps, led by Chairman Mr. Godfrey Quansah, raised concerns relating to working conditions, access to information, and coordination with relevant offices within the Mansion. The President listened attentively and pledged to improve engagement and collaboration with the media.

He further reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to press freedom, stating that an open and respectful working relationship with journalists remains central to his governance philosophy.

Members of the Press Corps welcomed the engagement, describing it as timely and reassuring. They expressed appreciation for the President’s openness and reiterated their commitment to balanced, factual, and professional reporting on the activities of the Presidency.

The meeting underscores President Boakai’s broader agenda of fostering open dialogue, strengthening democratic institutions, and promoting transparent governance as Liberia continues its democratic journey.
