A 45-year-old man, Patrick Korhena, has died after a tree fell on him while he was working in his cocoa garden in Kpandehawai town, Kolahun District, authorities confirmed on Saturday.
The tragic incident occurred on December 20, 2025, when Korhena reportedly went to his cocoa farm to cut down trees that were obstructing his crops. Eyewitnesses told investigators that while there were initial claims he was cutting palm trees, he was in fact removing other trees attached to the palms. During the process, one of the trees fell unexpectedly and struck him, causing fatal injuries.
A jury of fifteen men was convened to examine the circumstances surrounding the death. Speaking on behalf of the jury, its head, Samuel N. Jallah, stated that there was no evidence of foul play and concluded that Korhena’s death was accidental, resulting solely from the falling tree.
Korhena’s widow, Madam Sangai Patrick, described the moments leading up to the tragedy with deep emotion. She explained that her husband had attended a gathering in a nearby town the previous night and returned home before heading to the cocoa farm the following day, never to return.
Following the jury’s findings, the body was released to the family for burial. Police have indicated that while no criminal activity is suspected, routine investigations will continue.
The incident has heightened fear and concern among residents of Kpandehawai, who say the town has experienced a series of sudden and troubling deaths in recent times.
These include the death of Mbowai Fatu in a motorbike accident, Korubah Salay at a creek, Jenneh Easy in a separate tree-related accident, and Amos Korholo under circumstances described as suspicious.
Community members are calling for increased vigilance and preventive measures to avoid similar tragedies. Local authorities say they are reviewing safety practices and exploring ways to reduce risks associated with farming and other daily activities.
As Kpandehawai mourns the loss of Patrick Korhena, residents hope that lessons from these incidents will lead to greater safety and prevent further loss of life.
