In a show of compassion and community solidarity during the holiday season, the World Foundation International Multipurpose Agriculture Cooperative (WFI-MAC), in collaboration with Montserrado County District #1 Representative Rugie Yatu Barry, has launched a rice distribution initiative to support vulnerable families across Montserrado County.
The program involves the distribution of 100 bags of locally produced Liberian rice, each weighing 25 kilograms, to disadvantaged households and institutions between December 23 and December 24, 2025.
WFI-MAC, led by Board Chair Dr. John T. Wulu and Vice Chair Bishop Dr. Manon Gurley, with support from its Board of Directors, senior advisors—including Mr. Sebastian Teclar—and a management team headed by President and CEO Mr. Lincoln Z. Cooper, continues to promote agricultural productivity, food security, and rural development throughout Liberia.
Representative Barry, a member of the House of Representatives for Montserrado District #1 and Chairperson of the Liberty Party, welcomed the partnership and underscored the importance of supporting communities, especially during the festive period. She reiterated her long-standing commitment to social welfare initiatives, recalling previous efforts that provided rice and other essential assistance to families in need.
Speaking on the collaboration, Dr. Wulu highlighted the value of partnerships in achieving meaningful and sustainable impact.
“Through collaboration with community leaders and local agribusiness stakeholders, WFI-MAC is reinforcing its commitment to uplifting families and strengthening Liberia’s food systems,” he stated.
The rice giveaway is aimed at easing food insecurity and economic hardship faced by many households during the holidays. Distribution is being carried out at selected community centers, churches, and public institutions across Montserrado County, with volunteers from WFI-MAC and Representative Barry’s office ensuring a fair and orderly process.
Among the locations that benefited from the distribution are the Careysburg Police Station, Kesselly Memorial Health Center, New Jerusalem Orphanage, and Our Brothers Keepers Orphanage, among others.
Organizers noted that the initiative aligns with WFI-MAC’s broader mission to support local farmers, promote Liberian rice production, and encourage the sale of rice at affordable prices—key objectives that complement Liberia’s national agenda for food self-sufficiency and stronger agricultural value chains.
WFI-MAC officials explained that the holiday rice distribution is part of a series of seasonal outreach activities designed to support vulnerable populations while contributing to efforts to stabilize rice prices nationwide.
“This initiative represents compassion in action and reminds us that, together, we can uplift our most vulnerable citizens, especially during this special time of year,” Representative Barry said.
Overall, the initiative reflects a shared commitment among lawmakers, agricultural cooperatives, rice producers, and community partners to strengthen food security and provide timely support to those most in need during the holiday season.
