LNP, LDEA Intensify Anti-Drug Operations in Pleebo

By Gareyson Y. Neufville

The Liberia National Police (LNP), in collaboration with the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), has intensified efforts to combat drug use and trafficking in Pleebo, the commercial hub of Maryland County.

The joint security operation was carried out in the early hours of Friday, January 2, under the leadership of Region Five Chief of Operations, Commander J. Max Roberts. The exercise targeted locations identified by law enforcement as hotspots for narcotic activities and other related crimes.

Areas raided included Green Forest, 504 Block, Big Big City, and nearby communities within Pleebo. These areas are widely believed to be high-risk zones where drug use, distribution, and other criminal activities are frequently reported.

According to an official police report, the operation was conducted peacefully and professionally. Although no drugs or cash were recovered during the raids, three individuals suspected of involvement in drug-related activities were arrested for further investigation.

The suspects were identified as Prince Sayon, 32, of Maryland County; Ezekiel Dargbeh, 24, from River Gee County; and Joseph Wilson, 23, of Grand Kru County. Police authorities described them as prime suspects and confirmed that they are currently in custody while investigations continue. Further action, police said, will depend on the outcome of the investigation.

Speaking after the operation, Commander Roberts described the exercise as a bold and necessary step toward strengthening public safety and maintaining law and order in the region. He noted that the operation forms part of broader national efforts to curb drug abuse and criminal activities, especially as the country prepares for the upcoming 2026 period.

Commander Roberts also called on residents of Pleebo and surrounding communities to cooperate with security forces by providing timely information and supporting ongoing efforts to eliminate drugs and related crimes. He emphasized that the fight against drug abuse requires the collective support of citizens, community leaders, and law enforcement agencies.

The Liberia National Police and the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency have reaffirmed their commitment to conducting similar operations across the region as part of their mandate to protect lives and property.
